Protect yourself against Coronavirus
Protect yourself against Coronavirus
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, others may get very sick very quickly. There is evidence that it spreads from person to person. Good hygiene can prevent infection and self care will boost up your immune system.
If ever there was a time in our modern history to be mindful, aware, protective and strict with your health is now. The world is watching the number of COVID-19 rapidly growing, watching reputable film crews going into the shutdown area of Wuhan with bodies on the ground, people being forcefully removed from their homes and even doors of their apartments welded over so they are in forced incubation are not scenes to dismiss. Many of us in the West sat on the fence wondering was this all being blown out of proportions, is the mass media crying wolf again to have us panicking or is there any possible way this virus going to become a pandemic. We have all been told this COVID-19 virus is novelle, meaning a new virus of the common coronavirus and that there is currently no vaccine or cure for it.
So what do we do? Personal Protection Equipment -Those with compromised health in any way, have a chronic disease, had a chronic disease, easily catch flus, have asthma or any other respiratory disorder or illness need to be very caution and protective. I personally would wear a P2 mask if I had compromised health and avoid crowded public areas at all costs. At this stage our government is not suggesting we wear a mask, and P2 is the best option. Googles or disposable full face shield will be worn by health workers, the mask for healthcare personnel is NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher. The N95 filters out 95% of the small, virus-containing particles. As with all masks they must be worn properly. Caution must also be observed when removing the masks to ensure that you are not contaminating yourself with the virus particles that are on the mask. Healthcare personnel will also wear a gown and gloves.
Does this protect you entirely? No, it cuts the chance of the disease being passed on. Viruses can transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, so they can pass through many of the mask. Masks are effective with capturing droplets, which is a main way of transmission for the coronavirus and studies show they provide up to fivefold protection versus absolutely no protection barrier.
All viruses accumulate mutations over time and the virus that causes COVID-19 is no different. The Chinese Scientists have tested 103 samples of the virus, taken from infected patients and suggests that the early of the two main strains emerged, designated L and S. Although L strain appeared to be the most prevalent about 70% of the samples. The L strain is more aggressive and fast replicating inside the body.
In the southern hemisphere we are about to experience winter and this is the most dangerous time for flus and viruses. The elderly are at greater risk than younger people although you can still become seriously ill with a much higher chance of respiratory symptoms. Health workers and social workers are also at high risk. If you are unwell you should quarantine yourself.
Being at least 2 metres or 6 feet near an infected person who is sneezing or coughing for 10 minutes or longer are very high risk factors transmitting COVID-19. Depends on your bioindividuality and immune system this maybe a shorter time duration. You can be infected by contaminated surfaces, so disinfectant and bleaching are highly recommended.
Disinfect surfaces that you touch all the time, such as railings, doorknobs, elevator buttons or crossing buttons. The average person touches their face up to 23 times per hour, and about half of these touches are to the mouth, eyes and nose which are the mucosal surfaces that the COVID-19 virus infects.
Proper Hand Washing is essential. Wash your hands thoroughly for at least one minute with soap. If you use a hand sanitizers it must contain at least 60% alcohol concentration.
Adopt the Japanese method of no shoes inside. Have footwear that is only for inside the home, ask visitors to leave their shoes on a shoe racks near the front door.
Boost your immune system is key. There are receptor sites in every single cell of your body. That right there tells you something about its importance in the functioning of your health. Only two types of receptor sites are in every cell: the thyroid hormone receptor sites which are responsible for metabolism, and vitamin D receptor sides.
In fact, research indicates that vitamin D may be more effective than the flu vaccine when it comes to flu prevention! And at this time of year (coincidentally the time of year everyone gets sick), people tend to be depleted in vitamin D due to a lack of sunlight hours. Your body NEEDS vitamin D to support your immune system. So my number one recommendation is to take micellized vitamin D3 + K2. Micellization greatly increases the solubility, absorption and bioavailability over oil or emulsified forms. That means that your body will accept it more readily and put it to use. The usual dosage is 1000 iu per day per 12 kilos or 25 pounds of body weight. There is a list below on all the different ways to boost your immune system.
Infrared saunas. No this is not a plug just to get you to buy one (although you should definitely get one if you can). Saunas increase your body temperature mimicking a fever state. Why is that a good thing? Because that raised temperature kills off the bad germs that can’t survive those warmer conditions.
What do we know about coronaviruses from past experience? They tend to go away when the weather gets warmer. They tend not to survive these conditions.
But that’s not the only reason saunas may be a viable solution. An added benefit to a sauna is that you sweat out a bunch of nasty toxins that burden your immune system. ANY reduction in added stress to your immune system is helpful in allowing your body to perform more fully.
There are so many health benefits to a sauna that I can’t really list them all here. Check out this link above to learn more about infrared saunas. (Hot tip! Not all saunas are infrared, and you really want the infrared type to get the maximum health benefits.)
We cannot stress this enough DETOX, DETOX, DETOX. We’re talking diet, diagnostics, lifestyle, reduce stress, and learning to make informed choices on food, load up on nutrition, best way to eliminate toxins, all of these are detoxifying. We get the fresh air, grounding/earthing, being part of a group.
Again, the concept behind why this would be helpful in fighting off the coronavirus is similar to the infrared sauna, although slightly different. You have a whole excretory system (meaning these organs work to excrete things from your system). It includes your skin through sweat, your kidneys through urination, your lungs which filter out carbon dioxide, your liver which filters out waste, detoxifies and purifies and the large intestines which separates out the nutrients from the waste and excretes the waste via stool.
By using a multi-faceted approach to cleanse your body, of toxins and reduce the stress you are able to detoxify using all systems, to maximize elimination of toxins.
Get your Body Alkaline and decrease the Acidity level. Coronaviruses enjoy the comfort of a blood pH of 6.0. This is slightly acidic. However, research is revealing that the coronavirus cannot exist in an alkaline state, even as low as 8.0. (A pH of 7.0 is considered neutral which is water) So what are some natural ways that you can create a more alkaline state in the body? Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid dairy and sugar! You can even use that infrared sauna to alkalize your body. How do you know if you are acidic or alkaline? Like I always say, test. Don’t guess. Take a simple urine test to find out your alkalinity best to test in the morning before eating or drinking anything. Drink alkaline water, and if you don’t have access to it, drink a half a teaspoon to a teaspoon of organic bicarbonate soda in your water a day – this makes the water and your body alkaline or the juice of one lemon in water filter water first thing in the morning..
Avoid foods that cause your body distress. Pay attention to your body. Do you get bloated or gassy after eating certain foods? Do you have a change in bowels or frequent urination after eating or drinking specific foods or drinks? These indicate irritation. Common foods that irritate the system gluten, dairy, alcohol, sugar, additives in manufactured foods, if you see numbers on labels and don’t know what they are avoid they, don’t buy them. Avoid all junk foods. Avoid any food you have a reaction too e.g. many people feel heavy and uncomfortable after eating eggs, if you know or suspect a food or drink may be a problem for you, avoid it for several months. If you reintroduce the food, pay close attention to observe for any distress. Gluten is one of the most common offending foods for people. Try a gluten-free diet, and add in prebiotics like 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning and foods rich in fibre which ferments and becomes probiotics for the gut.
Eat a diversity of foods from day to day, including one root vegetable and two prebiotic foods. Prebiotic foods include almonds, chicory, garlic, artichokes, onions, chives, dill, leeks, shallots, cabbage, lentils, red kidney beans, soy beans, bananas, custard apples, watermelon, grapefruit, organic oats, flax seeds, chia seeds and chickpeas.
Eat a rainbow of colours with your vegetables and fruits they are all alkaline each day to ensure a wider variety of nutrients and limit your risks of food sensitivities. Make sure they are organic, non-GMO foods, focusing on whole foods rather than heavily processed, refined foods. This helps build diversity in the gut and improve the epithelial inner lining. Remember any product that came from a product meat dairy cheese icecream sausages, slice meats, chicken fish, beef are all acidic. This is why we stress to eat at least 80% vegetables and fruits and only a small portion of other foods. Nearly all processed foods are acidic due to the refined sugars, additives, chemicals and preservatives.
Clean up your home and work environment. Eliminate toxins in products you use, such as cleaners, detergents, shampoos, and cosmetics. You don’t want to be making all these strides in detoxing, only to be in a constant renewal of introducing toxins into your system. Part of our 7 Week Detox Program is dedicated to repairing your brain, reducing stress as this impairs the immune system and detoxing the any negative thoughts your mindset, as this also helps you clean up toxins in your daily life. You can check it out on here for details.
Drink water! Hydrate and cleanse the body of toxins by drinking water. Being hydrated is necessary to flush out toxins and keep your immune system working at peak capacity.
